American Dream? Rethinking Race, Gender, and Financial Success

I am so excited that you’ve signed up to get the mp3 replay link for May’s Financial Intimacy Hour – American Dream? Rethinking Race, Gender and Financial Success.

Check your email inbox for the mp3 replay link.

My guest expert was Dr. Atira Charles – Assistant Professor of Management in the School of Business & Industry at Florida A&M and CEO/Lead Organizational Consultant at Think Actuality, LLC. Dr. Charles’ research, consulting, and training facilitation seeks to shed light on and further understand the unique narratives revolving around the manner in which individuals manage their differences while striving for personal, professional and organization success.

Her focus on matters affecting your sense of identity intersects very well with my work in the areas behavior and money – aka integrating the psychology + emotions of money with the numbers. And, as you’ll soon discover, we had had a lively conversation!

Do you remember playing musical chairs as a youngster? Do you remember how it felt when the music stopped, all the seats were gone, and there was no room for you in the circle? Sucked, right?

Well, this is a perfect metaphor for what so many (perhaps even you?) are experiencing in response to the cultural, economic and employment trends unfolding right now. And, it is precisely why I wanted to explore the subject of the American Dream in the context of race, gender and financial success.

I wanted to explore the theory behind what’s going on and provide practical tools and resources to help people adapt. And, that is exactly what we accomplished.

When you’ve finished listening to this mp3, not only will you have increased your emotional and financial self-awareness, but you’ll also have some specific steps that will help you (re)define and experience the American Dream…your way. Especially if you’re someone who has been stuck in a time warp having a hard time adjusting to the new trends and longing for how things used to be – feeling a bit uprooted.

Once you’ve listened to the replay of our in-person event, I’d love to know what you learned about yourself and what, if anything, you plan to do differently.
