Not Your Average Memorial Day Sales Message — And That’s On Purpose
Memorial Day is when we are invited to pause. To remember. To honor the more than 1 million people whose service and sacrifice made it possible for the rest of us to live, work, and build our lives with greater freedom.
For me, it’s hard not to reflect on how tenuous that freedom can feel.
Of course, Memorial Day weekend is also known as the unofficial start of summer — and all the travel that comes with it. In fact, according to AAA, a record-breaking 45.1 million people are expected to hit the road this weekend — by car or plane.
It’s also the kickoff to a weekend of sales. And if your inbox is anything like mine, it is overflowing with slashed prices, flash offers, and attention-grabbing urgency.
(Heck, I might even take advantage of one of those sales and finally replace my air conditioner.)
The Subtle Messages You Absorb
Before sitting down to write this, I did a quick scroll through my inbox, looking at the “marketing” emails to see what lessons might be worth remembering and sharing. Not just about pricing (the number), but also about what pricing signals (how it makes people feel).
As a consumer, these sales can absolutely work to your advantage.
A good deal on something you actually need? Yes, please.
(Which is why I’m still eyeing that new air conditioner.)
But as a business owner, these kinds of promotions can quietly teach the wrong lessons about pricing.
Lessons like:
Lower prices equal more value.
Urgency always drives sales.
The only way to compete is to cut.
And if you’re not careful, these messages — even when absorbed passively — can start to influence how you price your offers.
Not from a place of strategy or alignment, but from scarcity, fear, or pressure to keep up.
Let’s Keep it Human
As you may know, the next Pricing Made Human® Masterclass is happening on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at 4pm EDT.
No, this email isn’t to announce a special price discount. 😜
Rather, it is to highlight how this 2-hour live experience is designed to reconnect with the humanness of pricing.
Because pricing — when done well — is a form of respect:
For your clients, customers, and prospects and the transformation they’re seeking.
For your business, and the value it delivers.
For your expertise and labor, your capacity, and your boundaries.
For the future you’re actively building.
If you’ve ever felt, or are curious if, your current approach to pricing is too arbitrary, too hard to explain, or too low — then this is for you.

I’d like to think that the Pricing Made Human® framework helps you to build a business — and a life — that has more freedom.
And the truth is, my ability to create this experience, get it trademarked, teach it to my clients, and see it ripple through their businesses and personal lives — none of that would be possible without the service and sacrifice of the people we honor on Memorial Day.
Happy Memorial Day!! Enjoy your time with family and friends.
