Do You Love the Results of Growth, But Not What it Costs?

Growth - noun

The process of expanding in capacity, perspective, progress, or possibility — often marked by increased awareness, better choices, and more (fill in the blank).

The soil for growth? Periods of transition.

That’s why my answer to the question in today’s title is a resounding: YES!

I am in the middle of a chosen transition. And while every bone in my body says I’m making the right moves, I am not a fan of this liminal space between “now” and “there.”

Mostly because it's uncomfortable. And sometimes, it requires trade-offs I’d rather not make.

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess you’ve felt the same when it comes to growth.

The truth? Growth — whether financial, professional, emotional, or operational — always comes with a cost.

But we rarely talk about those costs. And even more rarely do we anticipate them in advance.

This has been especially top of mind for me lately.

Over the past few (fast-moving!) summer weeks, I’ve been giving one of my signature offers — Pricing Made Human® — a glow-up. That process unexpectedly led to a full revamp of the back-end operations of my business. 👀

(And unlike the rebrand and website redesign from earlier this year, these summer projects weren’t part of the original 2025 roadmap. They emerged in June. Surprise!)

And yet…individually and collectively, they’ve sparked deep reflection, necessary questions, and a steady “keep your eyes on the prize” mantra — focused on the benefits I’m hoping this investment of time and money will yield:

  • More revenue

  • More clients

  • Clearer systems

  • Stronger boundaries

Each of these outcomes requires growth — and growth, as I’m reminded, rarely comes without tension.

The tension between:

  • Who I am now and who I’m becoming

  • How things currently work and how I want them to work

  • What I’ve been charging and what it’s time to charge

This is the price of growth

And the price isn’t always monetary — it can be emotional, energetic, or logistical, too.

When you reflect on the outcomes of your own season of growth, I bet you’re contending with some of the same tension...and paying a price of some sort, too. 😀

And if you’re a fellow entrepreneur and business owner, it’s a tension you know well.

Care to guess where it shows up?

In your pricing.

Especially during periods of transition — like scaling, shifting, or stretching — times when you’re introducing new offers, increasing prices, or changing how you deliver your work.

That’s when it becomes clear that pricing isn't just about being strategic. It’s deeply emotional. It’s relational.

Pricing is often the mirror where the costs of growth come into focus. Not just a series of numbers — but a reflection of your business’ evolution.

Pricing becomes a way of examining if you’re:

  • Discounting to be “accepted”

  • Over-delivering to prove you’re “worth it”

  • Avoiding a price change because you’re afraid of what it might signal

In an odd way, the tension brought on by growth is both exciting and unsettling.

And often, clarity only arrives after you’ve waded through the messy middle.

But I’ve come to believe the messy middle isn’t a sign that something’s wrong. It’s a sign that something is stretching, reshaping, making room.

Does this sound like something you and your business are navigating right now — especially as you gear up to finish the year strong?

I’ll be diving deeper into the dynamic relationship between growth and pricing during my upcoming Pricing Made Human® experience in September.

It’s a space for high-earning entrepreneurs to look at pricing through a human lens — not just a strategic one.

We’ll talk about trade-offs, turning points, and how to price in a way that reflects not just what you do…but who you’re becoming.

And, I’d love for you to join us. More details coming soon.

Until then, here’s to:

✨ Remembering that you pay a price for the results you want.

✨ Remembering that pricing isn’t just a math exercise (look at all three sides: financial, emotional, personal.)

✨ Honoring the whole journey of growth — including the messy middle.
