It’s the holiday season. With its colorful, bright lights, fun parties, quality time with family and friends, good food and libations, and gift-giving. It’s a time of celebration.
But I know not everyone is feeling festive. Perhaps that’s you. Perhaps you’ve experienced some losses that took your breath away. Yeah, I feel you.
Whether you’re skipping through the holiday season with a light heart and full of joy. Or, whether you’re wishing 2016 would finally. end. already. Or, you’re someplace in between. You will be okay.
Different. Transformed. But, okay. As the below quote reminds us:
“The future enters into us, in order to transform itself in us, long before it happens.” ~~ Rainer Maria Rilke
I share this quote every year. And, it always amazes me how each year it reveals something new to me and takes on a different meaning to and for me.
This year, I am reminded of the power of the human spirit. Especially when it quietly fights to escape its comfort zone.
So, my holiday wish is that you will quietly fight for peace; for love; for your dreams and goals; and for what’s meaningful to you and those important to you.
That you will quietly fight to be understood and to understand; to be seen and to see.
That you will quietly fight for the people you love and the relationships that matter to you.
That you will quietly fight for equality and the greater good of ALL.
And by fight (lest it need defining), I mean this: make the effort; make the sacrifice; invest the energy. I mean this: that you will not live life passively, and that you will encourage those around you to do the same.
The holiday season is, indeed, a time for celebration. It is also a time for reflection, affirmation, and gratitude. And, it’s a reminder of the resiliency that brought you and I this far, and that will carry us forward.
Here’s to wishing you and yours all the best and much joy and beauty as you continue to celebrate the holiday season and get ready to welcome in 2017.
May the New Year be filled with just enough challenges to help you grow, blessings beyond measure, and more than a few surprises that bring a smile to your face and your heart!
And, thank you. I couldn’t be more grateful for the blessing it is to have you be part of my world; I couldn’t be more grateful to you for giving me the privilege to be part of yours.
